Manybooks.net down—but I doubt it’s for DMCA reasons

By David Rothman

Many books.netManybooks.net—one of the best-designed public domain sites on the Net, with a rich assortment of public domain books in various formats—isn’t reachable. Inquiries are already coming in.

I doubt this is Blackmask II. Matt McClintock does not strike me as a David Moynihan type eager to duke it out with a big corporation. I’ve left a message on Matt’s answering machine and will also e-mail him. My guess is, “Technical problems.”

Update, 4 a.m. EDT, July 25: Yup, that’s what happened. The site is up again.

  1. Hey David — you’re right, nothing nefarious; I’m on vacation out of state, and my router seems to be having trouble of some sort. Hopefully the person feeding our cats will remember to give the DSL modem and the router a quick reboot this evening. Thanks for keeping an eye out for trouble!

And on the plus side, David just drew my attention to a site I wasn’t aware of, so danke :)

  3. Hey, Matt–I’m delighted that your site is alive and well except for that glitch of the moment. I should have posted that the same thing happened a year or two ago. Meanwhile, it’s great that folks like Alex now know of you. Also that your site is up and running again! Thanks. David

  4. manybooks.net seems down again… same reason this time, or something more nefarious?

  5. It’s back (8:30pm Eastern, 8/28).
