‘The e-Bible: Don’t you dare thump it’

By David Rothman

Bible Master“We suspect this electronic Bible, resembling a portable media player, was conceived by a Catholic school student who kept getting his iPod confiscated by the nuns. Would they be so quick to take away your toy if they knew it had the Holy Gospels onboard, I wonder? Xell’s B10 Bible Master also plays MP3s, has an FM tuner, and lets you view other eBooks through the SD card slot.” – Sci Fi Tech.

  1. “…this electronic Bible, resembling a portable media player, was conceived by a Catholic school student who kept getting his iPod confiscated by the nuns. Would they be so quick to take away your toy if they knew it had the Holy Gospels onboard, I wonder?”

Not entirely sure that it would be the best strategy:

“It was never forbidden to read the Bible. But some priests were worried that congregations would come up with dozens of conflicting interpretations of Scripture. These priests knew of over 300 Protestant denominations who had distinct beliefs about the interpretation of Scripture. … Some priests saw this divisional process in Protestant circles and felt it was a danger.”

And nuns are sort of old-school.

But also see here for the current take on this:

“I do not think it could be any clearer than this. The Church is telling Catholics “Read your Bibles.””
