Latest TeleBlog contributor: Deena Fisher, Drollerie Press publisher

By David Rothman

Deena FisherDeena Fisher, publisher at Drollerie Press, an e-hip house devoted to genres such as fantasy, sci-fi and horror, is the latest contributor to the TeleBlog.

She isn’t just a publisher of E, but also an avid reader, via her Nokia 770 (nicknamed “Zippy” even if it isn’t) and her desktop.

Deanna reads books in most all of the major formats, ranging from Mobipocket to HTML, and has a strong preference for nonDRMed titles.

Library connection

As a mother of three and wife of a librarian specializing in horror, fantasy and sci-fi books, she’s also a library booster.

Deena’s little small press—where her executive editor is Amy Garvey, an author-editor who previously edited at Kensington, one of the larger publishing companies—is fast gaining a rep for writer-friendly ways.

As you can see from the image accompanying a long TeleBlog post about Drollerie yesterday, her company also has a gift for striking covers. We’re tickled that she’ll be offering graphics help to the TeleBlog.

Web design pro

Besides running Drollerie, she owns a small business that provides marketing material, art, and Web site design to individuals, small, and mid-sized businesses.

Deena lives in the Cleveland area but has also resided in various Western and Southern states. She holds an English and education degree from Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona, and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Central Arkansas.

From a bio I requested:

“I haven’t stopped reading since I was 5 years old…I’ve loved fantasy and fairytales at least that long, and still love to read the latest Holly Blackor Caroline Stevermer, as much as I salivate over (but not actually on) the latest Nora Roberts or Charles De Lint.

“My favorite author list, not including the names just mentioned, is a short one—TerriWindling, L. Frank Baum, Ellen Kushner, Maurice Sendak, Holly Lisle,Elizabeth Peters, Tanith Lee, Robert Heinlein, Judith Tarr, Gail Dayton, Patricia Briggs, Jo Walton, Joan Aiken, T. S. Eliot, Sandra Boynton,
Charlaine Harris, Wallace Stevens, Deborah Grabien, Andre Norton, Clive
Barker, Steven Brust, Jacqueline Lichtenberg, C. J. Cherryh, Lloyd
Alexander, Pamela Dean, C. S. Lewis, Robin McKinley, Neil Gaiman, Nicola
Griffith, Lewis Carroll, Mary Jo Putney, Tanya Huff, Elizabeth Moon,
Brian Michael Bendis, Laura Kinsale, Ted Naifeh, Esther Friesner,
Nicholas Bantock, Roger Zelazny and Jayne Ann Krentz…”

About her librarian husband:

“Greg works for the Cleveland Heights-University Heights library system.
He spends half his time at the Noble branch, and half at the Lee Road
branch. They’re connected to the Cleveland Public library system and get
their e-books through them. It’s a good deal for them since it allows
them to access a huge library without a lot of additional expense, but
CPL does all the choosing. Greg is the uncatalogued paperback buyer and
suggests purchases of catalogued hard and paperback books for the
horror, science fiction and fantasy collections for the Heights library
system.”

Welcome, Deena!
