iLiad 2 lacks Vizplex screen, but retailer still impressed

By David Rothman

Impressions below are from Falk Kühnel of JustRead. Obviously Falk is hardly detached, but I thought this little writeup would still be of interest.

iLiad 2The second version iLiad has been released. It has now a few improvements. Firstly a bigger battery. Approximately 20 percent more capacity. Then the casing has been revised. The back has changed to provide more stability while scribbling and the interior have been improved to better stabilize the screen to prevent damage by pressure. It also comes with a protective pouch now and the smaller travel hub.

My personal experience with it so far: The newer one is tight and feels more solid.

I am also very excited to see a Cybook. It will probably be a great tool, if you do not need the pen or the larger screen. Can’t wait to compare the Vizplex screen to the iLiad’s.

An e-mail from Falk, when I asked for a clarification of the Vizplex question: “The iLiad definitely has no Vizplex screen. Larger Vizplex screens are not yet mass-market ready. The first device to feature a large Vizplex screen will probably be the Hanlin V9, and that is supposed to hit the market on December 31st.

“iRex is looking into Vizplex, but I haven’t heard anything definitive about that matter from them yet. And even if so, it will probably not be within the next 6 month.”

David again: I hope Falk will feel free to use the comment section to add to his impressions above. Also, I hope he’ll hang around to answer questions. We love hearing from readers about new hardware, just so people level with us about their possible vendor connections, as Falk did.
