Mobipocket titles, including 750 free pub domain books, added to Diesel eBooks

By David Rothman

diesel2 Diesel eBooks is adding the Mobipocket format to the existing choices of Adobe, Microsoft and Palm/eReader. It will also offer freebies of 750 Mobi titles, including Sense and Sensibility, Peter Pan and David Copperfield. They are available, too, in Microsoft Reader format.

In global Net terms, proprietor Scott Redford is almost a neighbor to me here in Virginia—he’s in the Richmond area, while I’m in Alexandria, 100 or so miles away—and I’ve long appreciated his enthusiasm for e-book standards. May the day come soon when the IDPF’s .epub standard catches on big, and independent retailers like Diesel can worry more about books and less about the Tower of eBabel! Good luck, Scott. News release follows.

Diesel ebooks now offering Mobipocket format along with over 750 free ebooks for download

Diesel eBooks (http://www.diesel-ebooks.com) announced today that it is celebrating the addition of Mobipocket ebooks to its inventory by permanently offering over 750 Mobipocket titles for download at no charge. The Mobipocket ebooks add to Diesel’s existing Adobe, Microsoft and Palm/eReader formats and brings the current inventory to over 200,000.

"We’re especially attracted to Mobipocket’s useability with eBook customers and its flexibility in downloading to handhelds like Palm, PocketPC and smartphone", states Diesel eBooks founder and President, L. Scott Redford. 2007 was a great year for us, especially in the romance category, and Mobipocket is just one part of our overall plan for continued growth.

The Diesel Mobipocket Gratis Collection includes Sense and Sensibility, Peter Pan, David Copperfield and other classic titles that are traditionally hard to find in Mobipocket.

Diesel eBooks offers over 60,000 popular, professional and academic titles in multiple, secure formats including Microsoft, Adobe, Mobipocket and Palm eReader. Visitors can make their selection faster using 40 categories and 2,000 sub-categories in genres including, mystery & suspense, romance, Harlequin, science fiction, business, computer and programming.
