I'm optimistic about ePub and certainly hope that it becomes a standard option for reading on every eBook system. I've been offering ePub on all of my new books published but haven't yet seen any significant customer take-up. Still, I'm willing to treat ePub as an additional format (adding to my current list of HTML, PDF, Microsoft LIT, Mobipocket PRC, and Palm DOC PDB) in hopes that it will continue to become more popular as a consumer reading system. I don't really see the need for a lot of development on intermediate formats but I certainly do see benefits from a universal (and flexible) consumer format.
