I think it’s worth it. (To note, if you’re already using another iPod for most of your music and stuff, you probably won’t need more than an 8 gig iPod Touch for e-book and net stuff, and you can get those starting at $180 for a refurb 8 gig gen1.)

I don’t know how the Touch compares to the iPaq, never having had an iPaq. But it’s certainly as easy as or easier than reading books on my old Palm PDA platform, and much easier than reading them on my Nokia 770.

There are several means by which you can get e-books for the iPod Touch. Here’s my review of the main e-book reading apps for the Touch.

I don’t see a problem either. The review is quite well done. I am currently trying to justify getting a touch when I already have an 80 gig video ipod and an old pocket pc ipaq. I use the ipaq to read word doc copied internet fanfics. How do you get ebooks and how much are they? Is reading the touch as good or better than I am doing now? Is it worth the 300 bucks?

i don’t see the prob either??? He says that the main difference is that the old one doesn’t have a speaker, and that it only has 2 buttons, the power on and power off, and the home button, but the new one has volume control also!!! Then he says that it would be nice if the old one had a speaker!!! (Chris, I agree, I have the old one, and all my friends brag cuz they have a speaker and I don’t!!!)

The new iPod has a volume control and speaker. The old one doesn’t. I have the old one.

“It would be nice to have that speaker for when you want to do something without headphones, and the lack of a volume control can sometimes be irritating” – but on the whole, I’m happy with my older iPod Touch, and anyone who opts for a refurb 1st gen rather than a newer 2nd gen isn’t missing too much.

Trying not to be too harsh here, but this review began to hurt my brain when it became so riddled with errors and even internal inconsistency. For example:

Those two quotes are completely contradictory, and they exist in two neighboring paragraphs in the same compare new to old section! Did you forget so quickly about the speaker and volume control when you wrote the second paragraph? All-in-all, a misleading review when most of it was probably copied from an old source reviewing the first-gen Touch, despite claiming to compare the new Touch.

Julie: There are Internet radio apps for the iPod Touch. If MLB games are able to be streamed via Internet radio, you can use FStream to listen to them as long as you have a wifi connection.

I have been thinking hard about purchasing a ipod touch. I was wondering if the maps are acessiable on the touch even without the wifi connection.

If you can trust her to take care of it, not break it, and not lose it, then yes, I think it would be worth getting. There are a lot of educational games available for the iPhone/iPod Touch, as well as lots of e-book reading applications.

i just got the new ipod 8gb one and it is the greatest thing since dino chicken nuggets. it took a little hastle puting it together but we figured it out and i never realized that it plays out load, it is so awesome

So still didn’t understand if the new touch (2G) is better than the old one because I found the old touch (1G) with 89$ lower price than the new one which one is prefered and I heared that the new has some problems with the normal accessories used for the normal ipods or the old touch is it correct ?
if so the old one will be better ???

Yes, Genius works on the first iPod Touch as well as later models. You do have to pay an extra $10 for the version 2 firmware upgrade to get it to work, however.
