Headline glitch fixed

By David Rothman

Update: Around 9 a.m. EST on Thursday, we fixed the headline glitch for recent posts. We’re now working on other issues such as missing images. D.R.

Stay tuned for more news when we find out what’s going on. We’re also working on the AWOL image problem.

10:46 p.m. EST, Wednesday: The headline link problem seems to be more complicated than we expected. We’ll keep you posted.

4:41 a.m. EST, Thursday: We’ll do some limited posting later today. Meanwhile if you’re an expert on the more arcane aspects of WordPress as run on an Apache server, get in touch with us and use the subject line “Glitch.” Perhaps crowd-sourcing the diagnostic process can lead to a faster solution.

Among other things, we’ve experimented with temporarily removing recent posts and disabling WP Super Cache. We’ve also tried disabling a redirect that makes old posts available at new locations. Yes, the database itself is safe.

The troubles began suddenly, without any changes in the WordPress configuration on the dashboard. So what do you think could be going on?

5:27 a.m., Thursday: From one of our tech folks: “Emptying the cache has resulted in none of the links working including navigation and everything that was working when the original few posts weren’t. This tells me that once it is rebuilt we should have all of the links back in proper order. The bad news is that it will take some time.” I also notice that for at least a brief time, Court Merrigan in Thailand was able to post. That’s a good sign that the rebuild might do the trick. But we’ll still welcome your ideas.
