I too am a Smashwords author and in addition, I am a technology retard. As such I could not believe the level of customer service which Mark San PERSONALLY demonstrated. In fact such was the astonishingly high level of support, I began to doubt the credibility of the company. It must be said that, Ive only recently repatriated here from nearly a decade in Japan, hence Marks Japan-like support was shocking. Smashwords has made publishing a much more exciting process than any near death traditional publisher would have.

I am a Smashwords author and a total fan of what Mark is doing, as well as many others in the indie author scene.
One of the huge benefits of Smashwords is how fast you can get going in multiple formats – there is no mucking around. Just load plain text and off you go – add a coupon and send it to your list. It also acts as a great extra way to present content, an addition to print, audio, video and other forms.
For authors who want to be heard and help people, Smashwords is a great platform. I can also attest to Mark’s helpful and personable manner. I had problems loading video for my book, and he had it fixed in no time – now that’s customer service!
This is an exciting time to be an author!
