I don't want to wake up one day to news that Amazon doesn't support certain books anymore or something else stupid. It's probably less likely to happen with Amazon with the Kindle now but it did recently happen with Fictionwise and I had books that were affected. The books are offered to me in ereader format now but that format is useless to me. Luckily I have my DRM stripped books on my Kindle and backed up. I plan on sending my parents my original Kindle now that I have a Kindle 2 and I'm going to offer to show them how to strip DRM or do it myself.
