New e-book pricing comparison site

By Paul Biba

images Now this is really neat!  I received the following email from Rachel Willmer:

I became a happy owner of a new Sony eReader a couple of months ago, and my first thought was “cor, these ebooks are expensive!”  So I started work on a price comparison website specifically for ebooks and the result is www.ebookprice.info.
It currently supports 5 vendors –
ebooks.com, powells.com, ereadable.com, diesel.com and of course, amazon.com. I’ll soon be adding a1books, and then next will probably by Fictionwise and BooksOnBoard. I’m getting lots of useful feedback from people who’ve tried the site and am actively looking for more.

This is an important service and I wish the site the best of luck.  I will be using it extensively myself, especially if Rachel can add Fictionwise.  Go over and take a look.  Here’s a screen shot of a search for one of my all time favorite books.

  1. As a test I tried searching for Douglas Adams. The ebooks.com entries always seem to include Adobe, MOBI and LIT but all three are not typically available. None seems to be available for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It also isn’t clear why there are separate entries for Adobe and for PDF. The PDFs from ereadable.com are Adobe ebooks.

Even with the above, this is a very nice service. It definitely needs FictionWise and Books on Board, although then Adobe ePub and FictionWise multi-format will complicate the format list.

I agree with the need for FW and BoB. While it’s a great idea, the site’s useless for me right now because it doesn’t include any of the three places I normally buy eBooks (Fictionwise, BoB, and Baen).

  3. Great idea, but will be more useful for me as Fictionwise and Books on Board are added. Thanks for the very useful site.
