Pan Macmillan releases web edition in advance of Twitter discussion

Received this press release from Pan Macmillan. More publishers should be looking at companies like Pan Macmillan which has long been a leader in this area.

1.jpgLondon, 22 May 2009, following Jonathan Ross’s surprise announcement that Jon Ronson’s‘The Men Who Stare At Goats’ is to be the first book discussed on his Twitter organised book club, Pan Macmillan have released the title as a web edition, using the Exact Editions digital platform.

In an innovative step Pan Macmillan are offering the book for free access during the Twitter discussion which is scheduled to take place between 5.00pm and 6.00pm this Sunday evening. Twitterers will be able to reference their tweets to individual page links.

A free preview of the publication can be seen at:

The free preview allows for reading of the first chapter; the search results are available in a ’snippet’ format. To search, browse and read the book in full requires a subscription of £4.99 – except on Sunday evening when the book will be freely available for an hour. It can be bought online and access is immediate.

This is the first time that a trade publisher has made a fiction title freely available to facilitate a live online discussion

The digital version allows anyone who has not yet been able to get their hands on a copy due to the high demand for the title to start reading straight away.
