Short notes: Rand drops ebook prices; McGill does digitize on demand
By Paul Biba
Yesterday the RAND Corporation announced they were lowering list price on their ebooks to $ 9.95 (bear in mind they are a non-profit research organization). Director of publications and creative services Jane Ryan said in the announcement, “Our costs are lower for e-books and we want to pass these savings on to the public. Given the timeliness of our research, we want to make our work quickly available on multiple platforms, including smart phones.” They currently have almost 900 titles available electronically. McGill University Library is pleased to announce a partnership with Kirtas Technologies and its Canadian partner Ristech, which will allow students, faculty and the general public to request to have books digitized and made available through the new Digitize on Demand program. The announcement will be made publicly at the Canadian Library Association’s 2009 National Conference and Trade Show being held in Montreal May 29 to June 1. Thanks to LISWire Aggregator
