Wikipedia Mobile is up and running
By Paul Biba
In another blow to hard copy encyclopedias, Wikipedia has gotten its mobile version up. According to the Wikipedia Technical Blog the mobile version supports the iPhone, Kindle, Android and Palm Pre, in both English and German. Evidently the mobile version is on its own server and it will do default mobile redirects to the mobile gateway.
Hooray! I just don’t understand how the Encyclopedia Britannica compete. They have a good site but I can’t imagine that many people will pay $70 per year for a subscription.
In any event, I’ve tried the new mobile site on my iPhone 3G and it works like a charm. Fast and well formatted.
