New e-reader for iPhone: Enhanced Editions
Enhanced Editions, from Apt, is to include these features:

I’ll be most curious to see what the business model is, and who the partners will be—not to mention the format(s) involved. I’d bet on ePub being among them
Meanwhile over at Barnes & Noble…
Speaking of e-book apps, I can’t wait to see what Barnes & Noble does with an actual e-reader, especially now that its new shopping app is topping the Kindle app and Stanza on the iPhone charts for free apps. Will it use ePub, perhaps the Fictionwise-DRMed variety? I’d hope there would be an option for publishers and writers to opt out of DRM.
By the way, the B&N shopping app has a cool feature that lets you snap a picture of a book with the iPhone and get back goodies such as customer ratings and editorial reviews.

I like the fact that EE’s people have paid close attention to Stanza. Could EE end up a Stanza replacement if Amazon ruins the existing app?

It’s kind of silly to make a big deal about the relative popularity of Barnes & Noble shopping app, which lets you buy actual stuff like books, CDs and DVDs that are shipped to your house, versus ereader apps, which are for reading electronic books. I was a little puzzled that the shopping app was even in the books section of the App store. Amazon also has a shopping app but it’s in the lifestyle category. I think all this means is that a shopping app is more popular than ebook reading apps.
Has B&N said much about developing another ereader beyond the one they just bought? Kind of surprised they haven’t re-branded it yet. Maybe that is a sign they are planning an additional app.
