New Amazon cellphone store: Hint of a future iPhone rival, maybe with e-reading capabilities?

By David Rothman

image Amazon’s has started a cellphone store, AmazonWireless—see details.

Is an iPhone rival in Amazon’s future, perhaps with e-reading capabilities?  This is just a guess, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Regardless of Jeff B’s talk of the glories of Kindle hardware, you’ll notice he has a Kindle app for the iPhone. So who know what’ll happen in the future?

One Response to “New Amazon cellphone store: Hint of a future iPhone rival, maybe with e-reading capabilities?”

  1. I’ve seen the store: It apparently sells whatever cellphones are available for AT&T and Verizon Wireless… including phones that can’t be used for e-book readers. Somehow, I doubt they’re planning to switch to just a special Amazon phone with Kindle app, and abandon all of those other potential product sales… I don’t think it’s even on their radar.
