Three million dedicated e-reader devices in U.S. by year’s end, says Forrester analyst

image Will there be three million Kindles, Sony Readers and other dedicated e-reading devices in the States by the end of 2009?

That’s the prediction from Sarah Rotman Epps, a Forrester Research analyst. And of course it does not even include e-book reading on cellphones and other nondedicated devices.

According to her, two of the three million will have been sold this year. Not a bad growth rate, even if e-book sales are now just a speck of p-book revenue, eh?

The more e-book-capable gizmos out there, the more the big houses may be shooting themselves in the foot if they delay release in E or jack up prices to try to protect paper editions. What a great gift to smaller, newer competitors!
