‘Apple’s $1.2-billion tablet computer’

By David Rothman

image The guessing game goes on. Just what will the new Apple tablet, subject of Philip Elmer-DeWitt’s item in Brainstorm Tech, be like? How much will it sell for—maybe under $600?—and how well will it sell? And will it be more than a niche product? Translation: Will more than Apple fan boys, geeks and e-book-lovers buy it?

As summed up by Elmer-DeWitt, a senior analyst at Piper Jaffray thinks that the new tablet could “in fact sell 2 million units at $600 each to generate $1.2 billion and add about 3% to Apple’s revenue stream in calendar 2010.”

  1. Must be a slow summer… all anyone wants to do is speculate incessantly about vaporware…

  2. Psst! You gotta be a tab enthusiast to understand. And yes, I think it exists. Thanks. David

  3. Actually, the thing sounds cool to me, too. But so far, all anyone has is speculation and a photoshopped set of pics. Seems pointless to expend so much talk over something no one’s seen. I keep expecting someone to comment on how it has too many screws on the battery cover…

Anyway, I’m witholding comment on the thing until I see it sitting in my local Best Buy.

  4. Well, Steve, thanks for your comments on the comments ;-)

    David

  5. i’m not the target market for this thing, but still wonder how much it’ll *weigh* — and how slippery it’ll be. and, for that matter, what it’ll really look like. a great, big ipod touch? really? or is that image just someone’s guess, which is now ubiquitous on the ‘tubes?
