Sony eBook Library 3.0 software now downloadable: Mac version added

By David Rothman

image Finally—a Mac version for Sony eBook Library 3.0 software. Download it or the PC flavor here or click on the appropriate image. Terrific, overdue news!

image Alas, I don’t see anything incredible in the current PC version. Frustratingly Sony didn’t improve the promising ePub-capable reader within the package, or at least not in the ways I was hoping. You still can’t advance a page by tapping the space bar, or by rolling your mouse wheel.

Joseph Gray put a finger on the real problem: Sony needs to go all out with a genuine desktop reader, rather than “just simulating” the screen of a mobile E Ink machine.

  1. YAY!!! Thanks for the heads up!

  2. Great news – shame it doesn’t…actually…work!!

This software doesn’t seem to work with Mac OS 10 5.8, or indeed 10.6

    Sony drop the ball again…

  3. I just got a Sony PRS-505 for my birthday, and was dismayed to find no Mac software but delighted to find the download. However, I agree with poster above – after a whole afternoon of frustration – it doesn’t work! Grrrr….

  4. Works fine here, although I recall seeing something about issues when run with your machine’s region not being set to one of the regions the software supports, so maybe that’s it?

The Ebook Library starts up, but only as an icon with a menu that only contains Services, Hide Ebook Library, Hide Others, Quit Ebook Library. I tried changing the region to US (from my region: Denmark), it did not help. I am using Mac OS X vers. 10.5.8
