Beautiful libraries
By Paul Biba
One of my favorite sites on the web, bookofjoe, has a series of pictures of beautiful libraries that will just take your breath away. Go over and take a look. I’d happily read my Kindle in any of them. The one pictured here is the Suzzallo Librare in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Enjoy them now. When ebooks completely replace pbooks, as some people (not me) wish, there will be no need for libraries — beautiful or not.

Possibly. But for an alternate take on what will happen to libraries, or at least to one particular library, when e-books “replace” p-books, check out Vernor Vinge’s Rainbows End, which I reviewed right here. You can even read the book on-line for free.

Ebooks or not, I get all weak at the knees when I see a really beautiful library. Having a look at the rest of the website (and there are 3 lots of photos) I would have to pick Melk and Trinity College Dublin as my favourites. Don’t ask me why and they are probably wildly impractical, but definitely appealing.
I love getting “lost” in my university’s library, even if not having the eye appeal of any of these wonderful places.
