New comments are moderated

By Paul Biba

images.jpegFor our new readers – if you make a comment for the first time the comment will be moderated. That is, it will be held until I approve you as a commenter. After this first approval your comments should go up immediately. We do this because of the huge volume of spam we, and all, blogs receive. Since March our spam filter has caught over 176,000 attempts to post spam comments. As you can see we can’t afford to let a spammer into the site. It may take a while, sometimes up to half a day, until I have time to review all the comments that are held for moderation, but your comment will eventually appear. Sorry for the inconvenience, but that’s life on the Internet, I’m afraid.

After you are approved, if you have trouble with comments disappearing please let me know. Our spam filter sometimes will register you as a false positive and I have to go into the spams and pull your comment back out.

  1. Forget Swine flu, Spam has got to be the number one pest on the planet. We also get truckloads of it every day, yet not once in the last ten years has anyone from our office ever responded to or bought anything from these emails. Our spam filtering gets rid of a lot, but we still get hundreds coming through every day. This is a small office, I can only imagine what happens in large corporations.
