Sony Reader PRS-300 reviewed at Mobile Tech Review

By Paul Biba

prs300_silver.jpgLisa Gade has a review of this 5″ unit and she likes it a lot. I have one, as well as a 5″ Astak Pocket Pro and I’ll be comparing them for you as soon as I can get some free time.

… Enter the Sony Reader Pocket Edition PRS-300, Sony’s first 5″ ebook reader. It’s got nearly all the features of the PRS-505 (now discontinued) but it’s 20% smaller and a bit lighter at 7.76 ounces. We showed it around to a few folks and each and every one exlaimed “wow, I could put that in my pocket!”. Looks like Sony got the both the name and size just right for folks who prefer portability over fewer page turns. And at $199, Sony is reaching the sweet spot for a mass market reader.

  1. I bought a 300 too. It is very good to read on but it is buggy (either it is or the 3.0 upgraded software is; which it is I’m not sure). I can synch the items in a collection to the reader but not the collection. I find this a royal pain in the … Is anybody else having the same problem? Also, my 700 is not functioning. If I use a SD card I can load collections onto it. But, when I do this the Sony software doesn’t recognize the 700; it recognizes the SD card and that’s it. Any ideas to resolve this problem?

  2. Gizmodo has a review of both the 300 and 600.
    Less the ecstatic, though:
