Pixel Qi displays to ship soon – OEMs only

By Paul Biba

pq-logo_sm.27121945_std.gifI must admit I was beginning to wonder if the Pixel Qi display was vapor or real, but Liliputing is reporting that the low power, dual mode screens should be shipping to OEMs as early as November. However this does not mean that they will be available any time soon. The Pixel Qi blog says:

While we are supplying screens for tablets (and ebooks, and netbooks too!) and are starting production shortly, including supplying limited volumes earlier than our official mass production start – we can’t say when these products will be announced and sold retail.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

  1. After finding out that wholesale screen prices for e-ink were actually rising this summer, it’s good to see some competition on the way.

If Pixel Qi is successful, this may be the most important development for ebooks since the development of e-ink screen themselves.

We need lower priced devices that are not single purpose. Love my ereaders but it sure feels like 10 year old tech…
