A few words on the Gordon Gekko of the ad world—plus an update on the Truman dog quote mystery

By David Rothman

image Martin Sorrell, a global advertising tycoon in the U.K., wants to see fewer newspapers and magazines. Could the ad biz actually be more of a threat to daily newspaepers than the evil Internets? Or at least aggravate existing trends? I have a few thoughts on that at SolomonScandals.com.

Also of possible interest there is the an update on Truman dog quote mystery (thanks to Garson O’Toole for that tip).

  1. So, Sorrell wants advertisers to control the media… in the Internet age. Good luck to him. I think we all know that ship has sailed.

I suspect the number of “pro” magazines and newspapers will dwindle, through no effort on advertisers’ part. But the fewer ad-based pro magazines we end up with, the more consumer-run special-interest online mags we’ll get.
