The iPod nano screen: If you really want to read e-books off one…

By David Rothman

iPod displaying e-book in JapaneseOK, so Mike’s joked about the Japanese going blind reading off the iPod nano. But might some brave Americans want to try this anyway? Reportedly the 1.5-inch diagonal screen “is extremely sharp at 176×132 and a dot pitch of 0.168mm. Colors are vibrant and text is sharp, giving a great impression of the Mac’s Aqua theme.” So can Apple’s latest models use the iPod notes format? If so and if you own one, head on over to ManyBooks.net and you’ll find a wealth of books there. Let me know what you think. And what’s battery life like if you use the iPod as an e-book machine? 1. Text may be sharp, but my aging eyes found it hell to try to read, even for menu choices and song titles. I’d have to pass on the nano just for this reason alone (putting aside that I really need 60GB minimum storage…).

  2. Thanks, Mike. Let’s see what the TeleBlog’s younger readers have to say. - David

  3. Bah! Youth is wasted on the young.

    They don’t read.

And when they do, they read crap.

I know. I used to be young, a trillion years ago.

  4. I love it. I jus got the ipod nano second generation and have to say that the “Notes” feature on the nano is great. I use it to make study cards or even convert whole pdf files to text and read of it. The screen is pinpoint sharp and bright. I have to agree that reading of this tiny screen for more then an our can quite intimidate your sences, lol but hey for short Notes and reminders this is just great.

  5. Nano 4 is too light thin for me, I will easily lose or break this. Anyone agree ?
