As much as I love e-ink, I don't really have a problem with LCD screens (except most are hard to see in sunlight). The problem is the drain on battery life. I listen to a lot of music and (when I'm in the states and not stationed overseas) I use my cell phone all the time. So if I used an iPhone to listen to music, check email, read thew news, text friends, call friends and family, and then add on my extensive reading habit to the top of the pile, I'd run out of juice before the day was up. This is the main reason Apple devices aren't yet ready for the ebook market. I wouldn't mind having an iPhone in order to combine all my favorite electronic hobbies into a single device, but the battery life is too impractical for me. Even with just an iPod Touch, I'd be listening to tons of music and probably using Wi-Fi wherever possible. This is the appeal of e-ink. It lasts so damn long! I generally don't like Apple products anyway. I love my Creative Zen and my Motorola phone. When I get a new smart phone, it probably won't be from Apple. However, if Apple ever created a long lasting battery that allowed me to use every feature all day without running out of power... I would probably cave and purchase their products.
