Amazon’s new POD policy draws wrath of independent publishers

By David Rothman

image “Without the opportunity to benefit from competitive pricing, small publishers risk at best an expensive and needless overhaul of their manufacturing process, and at worst, the loss of their livelihood.” - Terry Nathan, director of PMA, the Independent Book Publishers Association, as quoted in Publishers Weekly.

  1. Monopoly Alert!

It seems to me that at some point down the road amazon will also demand exclusivity with *ebooks* too.

I can foresee amazon having an agent or two trolling the publishers in NYC to get an advance peek of what’s cooking and then offering a “co-publishing” deal that will grant them a monopoly on the e versions.

Jaysus, I better start lighting candles for Apple to enter ebooks!!
