Somehow I got a small damaged spot on my Sony PRS-505. It looks like something small and pointy (my keys, perhaps) dented the screen, and the e-ink underneath is just gray and non responsive. The whole spot is only a couple millimeters across and is at the very bottom of the screen, where the page number shows. It doesn't bother me, so I haven't done anything to repair or replace it. Been like that for several months without getting bigger or smaller, just staying a gray little blob.

Last year, my wife crushed her Sony 500 in the car door, cracking the screen in several places. She went out and bought a 505 on the same day after checking with me to see that repairs would indeed be uneconomical. While the insurance might have been interesting in this case, the downtime of dealing with insurance and repair (shipping back and forth) would most likely outweigh the monetary benefit gained. I can only see this getting worse for the insurance companies as (hopefully) with volume business eInk devices start getting cheaper.

However if anybody wants a slightly used Sony 500 reader... :)
