There is already a 15" Macbook tablet called the Modbook. The Modbook was developed by one of Apple's partners. Apple is not going to undercut them. An 8" tablet is possible, but don't get your hopes up. Apple has a habit of joining a market with a product that costs more, does less. If Apple does make one the HD will be undersized, the RAM won't be upgradable, the battery will be soldered in, the CPU will be underpowered and it will likely cost around $2k.
