Sony Style store’s $45 ‘promotional discount’ brings Reader price down to $255

By David Rothman

image imageAlready discounted by other stores, the Sony Reader PRS-505 is now going for $255 at the Style Store—complete with the ability to engrave it. You may not see the new price until you use the checkout basket. Response to the Kindle price drop? (Found via MobileRead forum.)

  1. It’s funny, before the Kindle price drop, I had noticed Amazon was advertising the Sony Reader for $269.99 at Amazon.

I think it may be the other way around.

Maybe Amazon was seeing Sony move more Readers than Kindles and, not being to lower the price of the Kindles that substantially (can you imagine the uproar?), figured it may be time for the normal gadget price drop.

Price of the Sony Reader is still $299.99 at my local Best Buy though.

Also, the Sony Reader has been out longer than the Kindle so Sony probably has even more price flexibility than Amazon at this point.
