Sticky XO-1 keyboard replaced for $27: OLPC repair center lives up to billing in TeleBlog
My XO-1’s keyboard went kaput, with a Ctrl key switch that kept sticking. But all’s well again, thanks to the grassroots OLPC repair center in the D.C. area (e-mail). For a new keyboard, a firmware update and installation of Flash—somehow my own Flash installation didn’t take—the total was $27. The center absolutely lived up to a past mention in a TeleBlog item on OLPC repair centers.
Thomas Doggett and FFM at the center didn’t know about the FBReader port for the XO-1, so I spread the word, and I hope they’ll tell others about it. FBReader is a zillion times better than the built-in reader. Here are past TeleRead items about FBReader. Go here for the version I’m using.

Warning for XO-1 users with SD cards: Avoid Build 703 (8.1.0 OS update).
