Are publishers warming up a bit more to self-published books—and what about e-originals?

By David Rothman

image A PW item offers a little encouragement for self-publishers—with references to:

The Shack, the religious novel. Hachette picked it up, and the trade edition has made the New York Times bestseller list.

The Lace Reader, which has gotten a 200,000 printing, not bad for a debut novel first self-published.

So will this trend spread to another kind of black sheep—e-books? As I wrote in my PW blog, before I was rudely interrupted, some titles just might end up best-sellers in P.

Of course, some small E publishers are now doing both E and P.
