U.K. news: Sony Reader about to go on sale at Waterstones—and apparently be ePub capable
Old news. But as of tomorrow, people in the U.K. can preorder Sony Readers, and supposedly they’ll be fully available from September on. Here’s the start of Waterstones’ online listings for e-books, perhaps. No titles spotted there yet.
Amusing item on e-book page: "Free U.K. delivery to store and on orders over £15." Electron by electron? Actually it’s just part of the Web template.
Update (reflected in headline): The readers will apparently be ePub capable–see report in The Bookseller—and that might be good news for U.S. buyers as well. (Thanks Alan.)
Update, 2:45 a.m., July 24: A Sony Reader page, from Waterstones, that Dan Jackson has found. Thanks, Dan!

Excellent news. I look forward to seeing what their pricing structure will be like.

I like the bit “will be able to download e-books directly on to their Sony Reader device” in addition to USB, that makes it sound like a possible new version, not just a UK release of the 505, here’s hoping!

@Simon Dick - I think it’s more likely that it’s referring to some sort of kiosk in Waterstones’ stores, since it specifically says “Waterstones customers”. I seriously doubt it’ll have any sort of Kindle-like free wireless access on it.

Waterstones’ ebooks will apparently be ePub, so the long awaited Adobe Digital Editions upgrade to the PRS-505 must be slated for September. See http://www.thebookseller.com/news/63631-waterstones-to-stock-sony-reader.html
