Orbit offering $1 e-books

By Paul Biba

mail.pngOrbit, a science fiction and fantasy publisher, is offering one e-book (they call them ebooks, no hyphen) per month for only $1. This month its The Way of the Shadows, by Brent Weeks. In February a book by Iain M. Banks, then Karen Miller and then Brian Ruckley.

They are trying to get readers hooked on the first volume of a series, as well as promoting their backlist. It’s encouraging that more and more publishers are seeing the e-book as a promotional tool. The books are available from Sony, Mobipocket and Amazon. I wonder why they are charging a dollar instead of giving them away. Orbit is an imprint of Hachette and you can find Orbit’s complete e-book catalogue here.
